Interush Craft-Bamboo Lukoli has won the TCR Teams’ Championship with only one round left to go in the 2016 season. The title was secured after an outstanding double podium weekend in Sepang, Malaysia. James Nash retained his lead in the Drivers’ Championship with a third and second place in the podium.
Pepe Oriola finished behind Nash in race one to keep his dreams alive. However, a fateful contact at the end of race two caused him to lose a few points but he still retained his third place in the overall motor racing standing.
Sergey Afanasyev amassed a lot of points during the race and he was influential in helping the team secure the teams’ Championship Title. His P9 finish in race one and P7 finish in race two greatly rewarded the team. The team’s hard work paid off well and it was a great honor to clinch the 2016 TCR International Series Team’s Champions. Craft-Bamboo Lukoil racing team is now focusing on clinching the Drivers’ Championship in Macau in November with their key drivers James Nash and Pepe Oriola.
The qualifying race was not that easy for the Craft-Bamboo-Lukoil team as reported in the Indy racing news. Pepe Oriola said that he had did not have the best start and let James Nash get up behind him. He added that they put a good race from start to finish and he did not want to risk any chance of the team missing out on clinching the title. Nash made it clear that he had problems with his brakes and pit stops during the race and it was not easy going forward.
He further added that their qualifying strategy worked and they made it to the podium. Sergey Afanasyev said that he started further back but he put in a good fight for his team. Richard Coleman, CEO of Craft-Bamboo Racing said he is proud of the team, drivers and partners who made it easy to secure the Teams Title with a round to go. Without the support of Interush, the quest of the 2016 TCR International Series would not be possible.
